TUTORING PROGRAM- Tutoring sessions

AIM FOR EXCELLENCE-- 听The 疯马秀视频 Tutoring Program鈥攃ertified by the College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA)听 -- creates an environment for success, providing student-to-student assistance through scheduled afternoon and evening tutoring free of charge, in most disciplines. Students build independence and effective learning habits through active-learning, increased confidence, and improved study habits.听

FALL AND SPRING SEMESTERS- SCHEDULE A TUTORING SESSION or REQUEST A TUTOR MATCHED TO YOU

Use the online sign-up forms below for fall and spring courses. For Subject specific links, predetermined days/times in 45- 60 minute increments are on the form to choose from for your session. A student can request a session up to 8 days ahead of time.听

Tutoring for WINTER COURSES is based on TUTOR AVAILABILITY

For the general Tutor Request Form, a tutor will be assigned, and email sent to you within three days in most cases.

Students requesting a tutor will be responsible to set up the session with the tutor once given the tutor's email and cell phone number.

The time will be determined between the tutor and tutee(s).

Supplemental Instruction - Walk-Ins Welcome first come first serve in a session (limit 8 attendees).

SI is an additional form of tutoring. It is for specific courses/instructors/sections. The tutor attends class as a role model and note taker then holds review sessions each week for the enrolled students.听

Embedded Tutoring is a method of having a specific tutor matched to the course/section who will offer review sessions weekly. This tutor collaborates with the teacher on content.听

TUTORING GUIDELINES

Your tutor is there to guide you, not to complete your assignments. We ask you to please follow the guidelines below for an effective tutoring session. If you are not signed up, you will not be admitted to the tutoring session.

Attempt your assignment prior to attending tutoring.
List the course instructor as your primary resource before scheduling a tutoring session.
Bring prepared questions, your class notes, textbook, and other materials.
Stay as long as you need or until the session is over.

The Program provides support for two (2) hours per week per subject. A student may meet with Mrs. Sheri Yech to discuss additional time or alternative methods for support.

BECOME A TUTOR

Tutors are selected through an interview process and the recommendation from their instructors or the Tutoring Coordinator. Qualified tutors must receive at least a grade of B+ or above in the courses being tutored or demonstrated equivalent experience. Tutors gain professional development through training and actual work experience, and, for those who meet specific requirements, may receive recognition as a certified tutor through CRLA. Tutoring is one of the most enjoyable jobs on campus. The satisfaction at having made a difference in someone's academic life is enormous. Tutoring is also a good paying job and hours are extremely flexible.

Tutor Eligibility

The best tutors are 疯马秀视频 students who have already taken the course and received a grade of at least B+ or better in the course in which they wish to tutor, and recommendations from a faculty member. You are required to have a strong working knowledge of specific course content and must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0.

You must demonstrate effective interpersonal skills in working collaboratively with peers and teaching with compassion as you鈥檒l need to teach another student how to study and review course material.

You must be a good problem solver and demonstrate organizational abilities in managing tasks, maintaining schedules, managing time, and completing your own work assignments thoroughly.

Tutor Selection

If selected, you鈥檒l complete one Tutor Orientation Training session and Sexual Harassment training as a prerequisite before tutoring begins. Contingent upon the requests and availability of tutors in specific subjects, you can start working immediately after training.
